Warrick County School Corporation and Boonville High School were paid a visit by Indiana’s Secretary of Education, Dr. Katie Jenner, on Wednesday, August 31st. The stop at Boonville was one of many in a tour of Southern Indiana schools. Jenner visited the future Warrick Career and Pathways Center and spoke with students in our career specific classes to see how the new building will affect them.
Jenner’s focus since being named secretary last year is career development and early literacy. She came to Boonville to meet with Superintendent Dr. Todd Lambert and see the Career and Pathways Center behind Walmart. Although the visit was brief here at BHS, Secretary Jenner was able to speak to a few students about their future plans and how the new education center will help them get there.
One of those students was Junior, Jacqueline Mosqueda. “It was a feeling of joy to know that the Secretary of Education was genuinely curious about how classes were going, what we were learning about, how the program is benefitting us, and what Boonville is like,” said Mosqueda.
Dr. Jenner is the state’s first education secretary. After being appointed by the governor, she has been adamant about career development, a subject she taught for three years, for Hoosier students. Jenner has spent many years in the classroom both as a teacher and a student.
Boonville High School is happy to have the support of state officials and always ecstatic to offer new opportunities for our WCSC students. We all look forward to seeing the wonderful triumphs that will come from the Warrick Career and Technical Center, and are happy that Secretary Jenner was here to witness its launch.
